Review: The Troop

The Troop The Troop by Nick Cutter
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This engrossing read takes place on an island where Scoutmaster Tim has taken his troop to camp away from civilization. A deranged man shows up at the camp who is infected with a mutated tape worm and pandemonium ensues. There are different points of view throughout the book that tell the story, as well as snippets of news articles and lab notes. The gross factor is pretty high, with graphic descriptions of worms taking over bodies. There are also graphic descriptions of animal torture, especially thanks to one character who is pretty psychopathic.

It definitely was a pageturner and had my attention throughout. But some of the characters were pretty stereotypical. The fat nerd. The jock. The creepy kid with no soul...

I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read of a gore based horror.
